The Australia-India Relations Sentiment Survey

Location: Melbourne
Date 13 July 26

The Centre for Australia-India Relations (CAIR) hosted the Australia-India Economic Roadmap Business Reception on Thursday 9 July at the Grand Ballroom, Sofitel Melbourne, in honour of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Melbourne.

The breakfast brought together Australian and Indian businesses and stakeholders who have contributed to the growth of the two nations’ economic and business relationship. Minister for Trade and Tourism Tim Ayres opened proceedings, before Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Prime Minister Modi addressed guests, highlighting the complementary economic strengths of both countries and the progress made in deepening the bilateral relationship.

The event reflected on the momentum generated by the New Roadmap for Australia’s Economic Engagement with India, launched by Prime Minister Albanese in 2025 to guide the expansion of the economic partnership and diversify trade and investment ties. The Roadmap centres on four focus sectors including clean energy, education and skills, agribusiness and technology, and tourism.  It recognises the unique contribution of Indian-Australian communities, Australia’s fastest-growing diaspora group.

Guests heard how the relationship’s momentum continues to be driven by people: researchers advancing energy transition and manufacturing, collaborators in education, technology and agribusiness, and those building new tourism links between the two countries.
