Maitri Cultural Partnerships

What do I need to do to apply?

Before applying, you must read and understand the Maitri Cultural Partnership Grant Guidelines and log onto SmartyGrants to access and view the application form.

The grant opportunity is made up of three separate funding rounds, which form do I use?

You must choose the application form that is specific to the funding round you are applying for. The individual SmartyGrants application links can be found in Section 7.1, page 15 of the grant guidelines. These links, which include the grant title, will take you directly to the appropriate form.

The Department will contact you if we identify you have used and incorrect form.

Who is eligible to apply?

Before you apply, please check that you are eligible based on the eligibility criteria located in Section 4.1 and 4.2, page 10 of the grant guidelines.

We cannot consider your application if it does not satisfy all the eligibility criteria.

What is the deadline for applications?

You must submit your application on SmartyGrants by 23.30 AEST on 27th March 2023.
Late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Can an individual or organisation apply for all three of the grants?

Yes, applicants can apply for one, two or all of the grants, however applicants must submit individual applications using the correct application form.

The Department cannot accept multiple applications for the same grant. For example, an applicant can only apply for the Maitri Cultural Partnership Major Collaboration Grant once.

Does my activity or collaboration have to take place in Australia or India?

Your activity or collaboration can take place in either Australia or India, or both. However, you must clearly set out how this will occur.

What is the maximum duration of the grant?

The grant period is up to 2 years however this is dependent on when the activity or collaboration will be held. See Section 3.2, page 10 of the grant guidelines.

How much funding can I apply for?

Each of the grants have a minimum and maximum grant amount. The funding you apply for must fall within this minimum and maximum amount.

However, your activity and the funding you apply for will be assessed for value for money. The final funding amount you receive is at the discretion of the program delegate.

What if COVID-19 impacts the implementation or completion of the grant deliverables?

If you identify that COVID-19 may impact your grant activity in any way you must notify the Department as soon as possible by contacting us via the MaitriGrants@dfat.gov.au inbox.

When might I get my grant funding?

We anticipate that grant funding will be available from May or June 2023. Successful grantees will need to negotiate a grant agreement that will determine the exact timing of when the payment will occur. Grant funding will not be paid until a grant agreement has been executed by both parties.

Can I receive funding for an activity or collaboration that might take place in the 2023-2024, or 2024-2025 financial year?

Yes. If your activity or collaboration will take time to plan and develop before it is delivered or held, you will receive funding this financial year. However, the Department will work closely with you to ensure your delivery goals are met and funding is managed appropriately. Awarding of funding is at the discretion of the program delegate.

Will I get all of the funding I apply for?

Not all of the activity or collaboration you apply for is automatically awarded. After assessment the Program Delegate will make the final decision on what is eligible expenditure and may seek to negotiate alternate funding amounts dependant on the activity.

What supporting documents do I need to provide to support my application?

We require a letter of support from each consortia partner as per Section 7.2 and 7.3, page 15 of the grant guidelines. If alternate supporting documents are required, the Department will contact you.

When will I be notified if I am successful?
